I had no intention on shooting for this topic, but here we are. I had just given my daughter a bath and put a new dress on. I thought, great! Big brother is napping, you’re clean and dressed up, lets take some pictures!
It started out ok, she listened and sat where I told her to. Then came the attitude. (Pictured on left)
I thought, oh no. I really want just one good picture of her. She looks adorable and she’s clean for once. So I pulled out my phone and started playing a video I had taken before my husband left for deployment. You guys, her face LIT up. (pictured below). I had my image I was after but I decided to keep shooting.
She was super excited to see her daddy on my phone. She has watched this video at least 100x in the last 3 months. I love how she interacts with the phone as if he were here. She recites what they say in the video. It’s the sweetest. Emmalyn is now 17 months old but has not forgotten about her dada at all! I was sure she’d forget him since she was 13 months when he left but she hasn’t and that makes me happy!
Recently my kids were on vacation with their grandparents, they got back a little over a week ago. My son was very excited to be back home and see his dog, Molly! He suddenly got teary eyes and looked at me and asked where his daddy was… Oh man. I felt a big lump in my throat and explained daddy was not here because he had to help people. That was the first time he had been sad about my husband being gone. My heart breaks for my kids and seeing them miss their dad. I can handle it and I understand it, but our tiny humans don’t. I missed my kids like crazy when they were gone for two weeks, I can only imagine how my husband feels missing them for 6+ months.
I am very thankful for modern technology and cell phones! We video chat at least once a week and I send him pictures of the kids daily. We also had him read a few books on camera so the kids can watch those when they miss him or before bedtime. It just so happened that one of those videos came in handy today!
